STRK Up 117% in a Week. A 127M Token Unlock Lands October 15. Here's the Perp Data.

STRK rallied 117% in seven days on Layer 1 speculation while perp open interest built to $59M on Hyperliquid. A 127 million token unlock lands October 15. This is what the venue data shows about positioning, funding, and the supply overhang.

STRK Up 117% in a Week. A 127M Token Unlock Lands October 15. Here's the Perp Data.

STRK, the Starknet token, rose 116.7% in the seven days through October 11, according to CoinGlass data. The rally came after StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said on October 8 that the network was "actively considering becoming a Layer 1" with a quantum-resistance target for 2027. No approved transition plan has been published.

Now a 127 million STRK token unlock lands on October 15, three days away. At the October 11 price of $0.119, the tranche is worth about $15.1 million, equal to 1.27% of the original 10 billion token supply. The unlock makes previously restricted tokens transferable. It does not force recipients to sell.

This article breaks down what the Hyperliquid perp data shows about STRK positioning, what the unlock means for supply, and what to watch.

The Hyperliquid perp market #

On October 12, the STRK perpetual on Hyperliquid showed $59.3 million in open interest and $106.9 million in 24-hour volume, according to the Hyperliquid API. The mark price was $0.10723. STRK ranked seventh by volume among the venue's 234 listed perps and twenty-third by open interest.

The open interest is denominated in contracts. At the current mark price, 553,438,377 contracts equal $59.3 million notional. That is a fraction of the venue's largest perp markets. BTC open interest sits at $3.2 billion. ETH at $2.8 billion. But STRK's $106.9 million in daily volume is real turnover. It accounted for 2.7% of the venue's $4.03 billion in total perp volume.

The $59.3 million in open interest is capital at risk. The $106.9 million in volume is price discovery. Both matter, but they tell different stories.

Funding signals a crowded long #

STRK's funding rate on Hyperliquid was +0.00226% per hour at the time of fetch. Positive funding means longs pay shorts. The market is net long.

This is not unusual after a 117% rally. Traders who bought the speculation hold leveraged longs. The funding rate is the cost of holding those positions. At +0.00226% per hour, a $10,000 long position pays about $0.54 per day. Small, but the direction is unambiguous.

Compare that to BTC at +0.0005% and ETH at +0.0012%. STRK's funding is the seventh-highest among the top 10 volume assets. The crowd is more crowded in STRK than in any other actively traded perp on the venue.

Hyperliquid caps STRK leverage at 5x. That is the lowest cap among the top 10 volume assets. BTC allows 40x. ETH allows 25x. The venue's risk engine has assessed STRK as too volatile for higher leverage. That assessment is worth noting when the token has just doubled in a week.

The 127 million token unlock #

According to Tokenomist data cited by CryptoSlate, 127 million STRK unlock on October 15. The release splits into 66.61 million tokens for early contributors and 60.39 million for investors. At the October 11 price, the full tranche is worth roughly $15.1 million.

The unlock is monthly. Starknet's published vesting schedule allows up to 127 million STRK to unlock each month for early contributors and investors through March 2027, according to Tokenomist data. This is not a one-time supply shock. It is a recurring schedule.

The $15.1 million figure depends entirely on price. At the CoinGecko fetch price of $0.045, the same 127 million tokens would be worth $5.71 million. The token's 24-hour trading volume ranged from $144 million to $720 million depending on the source and fetch time. A $15.1 million unlock against even the lower volume figure is absorbable in a single day's trading.

But the unlock lands after a 117% rally. The recipients are early contributors and investors who have waited through a 99% drawdown from the all-time high of $4.41, according to CoinGecko data cited by CryptoSlate. Some may sell. The question is how much selling pressure hits a market that is already crowded with leveraged longs.

The Layer 1 speculation #

On October 8, Starknet posted on X that it was "actively considering becoming a Layer 1" with a goal of becoming "the first fully quantum-resistant network" by 2027. CEO Eli Ben-Sasson framed the move as a response to quantum computing threats that could arrive faster than expected.

Starknet currently operates as an Ethereum Layer 2 validity rollup. It executes transactions separately and submits cryptographic proofs to Ethereum for settlement. The proposed transition to an independent Layer 1 would give Starknet control over its own security upgrades, but it would also require a new settlement model, validator coordination, and network security.

No technical specifications, governance arrangements, or token-economic changes have been published. The market is pricing a possibility, not a plan.

Starknet's ZK-STARK proof system already uses hash-based cryptography, which is more resistant to quantum attacks than the elliptic-curve mechanisms used by Bitcoin and Ethereum. The network also supports programmable accounts, allowing developers to introduce alternative signature schemes. But bridge messaging and data availability dependencies inherited from Ethereum remain outside Starknet's direct control, according to StarkWare's published roadmap.

The speculation has driven real volume. CoinGlass data showed $3.5 billion in 24-hour futures volume across all venues on October 11, with $14.8 million in liquidations. The open-interest build and the price move are not derivatives of derivatives. They are backed by spot turnover.

Open interest across venues #

STRK perp open interest across all reported venues reached $196.8 million on October 11, according to Coinalyze data cited by cryptonews.net. A separate CoinGlass snapshot put total futures open interest at $258.5 million. The discrepancy likely reflects different fetch times and venue coverage.

Hyperliquid and Binance together account for approximately 63.3% of reported STRK open interest. Four platforms hold roughly 99% of the total. The market is concentrated. A liquidation event on one venue could cascade through the others.

On Hyperliquid, STRK's $59.3 million in open interest is about 30% of the $196.8 million total reported by Coinalyze. The venue has meaningful exposure but is not the dominant venue for STRK perps.

What the RSI tells you #

STRK's 14-day RSI reached 87.85 on October 11, according to TradingView data cited by cryptonews.net. The conventional overbought threshold is 70. An RSI above 80 indicates unusually strong recent momentum.

High RSI readings can persist during aggressive rallies. They also leave the token exposed to sharp profit-taking when buying pressure weakens. STRK traded at $0.119 on October 11, roughly 42% above its 365-day exponential moving average of $0.084.

The token has since pulled back. The Hyperliquid mark price of $0.10723 on October 12 is about 10% below the October 11 high. Some profit-taking has already occurred.

What to watch #

First, the unlock itself. Tokens become transferable on October 15. Watch whether recipients sell into the rally or hold. The $15.1 million tranche is small relative to daily volume, but it lands in a market with crowded leveraged longs.

Second, funding rates. If STRK funding stays positive and rises, the crowd is getting more crowded. If funding flips negative, longs are exiting and shorts are paying. That is the first sign the positioning is unwinding.

Third, open interest. If OI keeps building while price stalls, new leveraged positions are opening. If OI drops while price falls, longs are being liquidated. The second scenario is the one that accelerates downward.

Fourth, the Layer 1 narrative. Any technical specification, governance proposal, or timeline for the Ethereum exit will move the token more than the unlock itself. The speculation is the catalyst. The unlock is the timing risk.

How JW3.ai fits #

JW3.ai integrates the Hyperliquid API so you can check STRK's open interest, funding rate, and volume alongside price data in one interface. The app shows 24-hour volume, open interest, and funding for every listed perp before you open a position.

The venue's 5x leverage cap on STRK is visible in the interface. So is the order book depth. For a token that just doubled in a week and faces a supply unlock in three days, that information is not optional.
