Operational security: separating savings from activity
Hot wallet for operations, cold storage for savings, and rules for moving between them. Structure beats vigilance.

Two wallets minimum
Keep operating funds in a hot wallet and savings somewhere it cannot be reached by a bad click — hardware, or a separate seed that never touches a trading device. Size the hot wallet so its total loss hurts but does not ruin: that cap is your security budget.
Rules for moving between them
Refills go savings → hot in fixed tranches; profits go hot → savings on schedule, not on emotion. Large transfers always start with a test amount verified on a block explorer. Never "temporarily" hold the full stack hot for convenience — temporary is when attacks happen.
Backups that survive reality
Paper burns, ink fades, houses flood. Metal backups resist fire and water; geographic separation resists theft and disaster. And the unglamorous killer: document the setup so your heirs can recover it — wealth nobody can inherit is barely wealth.
Devices and connections
Trading devices stay updated and free of pirated software. Public Wi-Fi plus a fresh wallet install is asking for interception — use known networks, keep a separate browser profile for finance, and treat every new device as hostile until proven otherwise.
Risk note: cryptocurrency trading, leveraged perpetual futures, and automated algorithmic strategies carry significant risk of rapid and total financial loss. Never risk funds you cannot afford to lose completely. Nothing in this lesson is investment advice, a recommendation, or an offer to sell any product.
